1.你非常人,在单车运动中,任何情况下都不会摔车和发生事故;
2.你在骑行过程中,所有的机动车和障碍物都会让着你;
3.你平时不用带着脑袋出门骑车,头盔是累赘;
4.带脑袋骑车的时候,你的脑壳比地壳结实;
5.你的脑袋再生能力强,就像壁虎的尾巴(观海2008提供);
6.你是传说中的九头鸟,就是摔坏1、2个头也不用在意(棋茶客提供);
7.你车技娴熟,又是属猫的,有9条命(两轮法拉利提供);
THE TOP 16 REASONS PEOPLE GIVE FOR NOT WEARING HELMETS
1. “I have a hard head.”
If you fall over while SITTING STILL on an UNMOVING bicycle and strike your head on the ground, your head “travels” FASTER than the 7 miles an hour it takes to fracture your skull and KILL you!
2. “I ONLY ride on dirt and grass and go slowly.”
So what? See Reason 1#. You CAN’T go slower than STOPPED!
3.(Adults) “I never wore one as a child.”(成年人) “ 我从来不会打扮成象孩子一样”。
Of course not! Nobody did before helmets first went on sale in the mid-1970’s!
4. “I’ve lived this long without wearing a helmet.”
Using that logic, very old people sould argue that despite having never received the vaccines we give children today, they’re still alive. Therefore, we should stop inoculating children!
5.“Helmets look stupid.”
PEOPLE WITH SERIOUS, PREVENTABLE HEAD INJURIES LOOK “STUPID!”
6.(Teenagers) “I’m not going to die.”(青少年) “ 我才不会死”。
Probably not in a bicycle accident! In the entire U. S., we average only 2 - 3 bicycle-related deaths per day, but there ARE between 200 and 300 permanent brain injuries per day. THAT’S the risk! Nearly 90% of all head injuries resulting in permanent brain damage or death could be prevented by helmet use. The largest, most expensive risk is crippling injury…NOT death!
7. “My friends (or parents!) don’t wear them.”
If your friend went and jumped off a bridge…would you?!
8. “Helmets are heavy.”
Most weigh between 9 and 16 ounces, that’s a pound or less! NOTE: CHEAPER helmets often ARE heavier.
9. “Helmets are hot!”
They can be when you’re not riding. Air ventilation and cooling systems work best while you’re riding. Also, CHEAPER helmets with fewer “air holes” ARE HOTTER. In hot weather, wear a sweat band around your head to keep sweat out of your eyes. In cold weather, wear ear warmers or thin cloth hoods (called balaklavas) under your helmet for warmth.
10. “Helmets are uncomfortable.”
Cheaper ones ARE OFTEN less comfortable. They’re sold where NO ONE knows how to correctly fit or adjust them which makes all the difference in helmet comfort.
11. “I can’t keep the darned thing adjusted!”
Bike shops are experts at proper helmet sizing and adjustment, and are happy to correctly adjust or re-adjust your helmet for you.
12. “Helmets are expensive.”
The average head trauma, ambulance ride, emergency room visit, x-rays, doctor’s bills, etc., IF THERE’S NO SERIOUS INJURY will easily cost a thousand dollars! That’s almost 50 TIMES the cost of a helmet!
13. “Helmets are ugly.
Helmet styling and appearance are important, especially to kids. They’re more likely to wear their helmet if they “like how it looks.”
14. “Helmets make me look like a mushroom-head!”
Helmets come in many different shapes Some have plastic visors on the front to shield eyes from sun or rain. Visors create the “optical illusion” of narrowing the helmet, reducing what some call the “mushroom head” look.
15. “Helmets mess-up my hair.”
Yes, but not as badly as a head injury! Carry a comb!
16. “How can helmets protect you? They BREAK if you fall!”
Helmets are MADE to break. That's what they're SUPPOSED to do! Helmets are made of a material that absorbs a blow and will fracture, crush, or break when the head hits something. THAT’S HOW THEY PROTECT THE BRAIN (…and why they’re called “brain buckets”!). Helmets are designed to withstand ONE FALL! Replace a helmet after ANY head impact. It did its job!
A properly fitted helmet should be adjusted to be snug on the head, with the front just above the eyebrows, and the retention straps positioned and tightened to keep the helmet “in place” on the head without sliding around. Bike shop people are EXCELLENT at properly adjusting helmets.
WEAR A HELMET WHENEVER YOU RIDE. It’s like a “seat belt” for your brain!
ONLY buy helmets meeting the federal government’s CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) standard for impact protection (applies to all helmets manufactured after March 1999).
Stick a label inside your helmet with your name, address, phone number, etc. on it for identification purposes in an emergency. |
